2006 Ford GT Competition

Robertson Racing

The 2005-2006 Ford GT was designed and produced to be a “halo” car for the company, not a race car. However, there were people who recognized that the cars, with proper development, could be competitive race cars. The privately funded husband-and-wife race team of David and Andrea Robertson recognized that potential and campaigned a competition-prepared 2006 Ford GT in the American LeMans series GT2 class. Over several seasons, with Dave and Andrea doing the driving, the car got better and better, eventually taking pole position at Petit LeMans. Then, in 2011, the Robertson Race Team was accepted to the world’s premier international endurance-racing event, the 24 Hours of LeMans, a dream come true for a privately funded race team. Incredibly, on July 11, the couple’s 7th wedding anniversary, they drove to a podium finish, the only husband and wife ever to do so. And Andrea was, and is, the only grandmother to have ever claimed that honor.
