1926 Indian OHV Prince Racer

This 1926 Indian OHV Prince Racer is an extremely rare, original-paint example of a documented Indian factory racer from what has been called the golden age of American dirt-track competition. The OHV version of an engine introduced in 1925, this new configuration had hemispheric combustion chambers and two-valve heads. This light, compact racer used a shorter wheelbase than the street versions, and had a steeper head angle to account for the fact that most of the time the motorcycle would be sliding sideways. Two years after the Prince Racer’s introduction, Harley-Davidson countered with its Model S “Peashooter” racer. To many, the Indian always presented a more pleasing aesthetic, adding to the widely held notion, then as now, that going fast is even better when you look good doing it.
